Andrew and Morris Fine | Outstanding Philanthropists, National Philanthropy Day Awards

The Fine brothers have made it a personal legacy to give back to the community in which they both reside. The Hampton Roads community is grateful for their leadership and their dedication that has led to the betterment of nonprofits in this region.

ANDREW FINE

As president of The Runnymede Corp., Andrew Fine has been active in commercial real estate development for over 50 years. He was selected as First Citizen of Virginia Beach in 1990 and served as co-chairman of the Virginia Beach Labor Day Coordinating Committee.

He was a founding director of both Commerce Bank and TowneBank, and has served on the board and as the rector at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Fine served as a commissioner and vice chairman of the Virginia Beach Development Authority, and was chairman of the Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission for many years. He was founding director and chairman of the Virginia Beach Foundation, a founding director of Virginia Beach Vision, as well as a founder and former chairman of Cape Henry Collegiate School.

Fine led the effort to save and restore the De Witt Cottage (now the Atlantic Wildfowl Museum), is a co-founder and director of Lynnhaven River NOW, and was a founder of the Virginia Beach Green Ribbon Committee. He served The Chrysler Museum of Art as chairman and director, was co-chair of Art of Glass I and II, and served as a board member for WHRO Public Media the Hampton Roads Community Foundation.

At present, he is the founding director and chairman of public art for the Virginia Beach Foundation and is a chairman of the ViBe Creative District in Virginia Beach. Fine practiced law in the family law firm for over two decades and was a substitute judge in Virginia Beach for many years.

MORRIS FINE

Morris Fine has been an active member of Runnymede’s executive team since 1956. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia (undergraduate and law degree); and has been practicing law in Virginia since 1955.

Fine routinely appears in all courts in South Hampton Roads on a wide variety of issues ranging from land use and development, business development and planning, estate matters and all aspects of civil litigation.

He served as chairman of the board of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (1978-82), was president of the Virginia Marine Science Museum (now the Virginia Aquarium) and was president and trustee of the Virginia Beach Foundation (1984-2006).

He is currently serving as president of the Virginia Beach Library Foundation.

He is a member of the Virginia Beach Bar Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (director, 1960-1992), and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He also served in the Navy’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps (active duty, 1955-1958) and retired from the Navy Reserve as a commander in 1976.

Fine received the ninth annual Barron F. Black Community Builder award from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation in 2015. The award honors a Hampton Roads professional adviser for outstanding community service, support of philanthropy and dedication to improving life in the region.
